We are recruiting at least one new member for our Philmont crew!  Travel dates will be June 10-22. We have been assigned itinerary 12-1 and will get to explore the beautiful Philmont South Country.  Our activities will include hiking, horse ride (one day, not cavalcade), rock climbing, high and low ropes COPE course, 3-d archery, blackpowder rifle, and historical reenactments demonstrating the way of life of the Jicarilla Apache, Abreu Family Mexican Homestead, and post Civil War Settlers.  We will summit the Tooth of Time before hiking into base camp on our last day!  It will be an adventure to remember!  Talk with Crew Leader Rivanna or Mrs. Stephens if you are interested in joining us!

Weekly Update for February 12

Posted by cstephens1 on Feb 10 2026 - 9:29pm

We'll have our hour long PLC this week at 6 and begin OA elections starting shortly after the 7 p.m. opening.  The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the honor society of Scouting America, composed of Scouts who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives as elected by their peers. Scouts who are eligible are first class rank or above and have 15 camping nights and one long-term camping experience within the past 2 years. Scouts will also plan for the upcoming Mineral Wells Campout and turn in any final rank requirements or merit badge blue cards to Dr. Mavalli.  I will also accept leadership applications for scouts who are interested in running for Troop Leadership and will talk with scouts who are interested in taking the upcoming Snow Sports or Personal Fitness merit badges.

Weekly Update for February 5th

Posted by cstephens1 on Feb 3 2026 - 9:42pm

It will be so nice to gather together again on Thursday following last week's weather cancellation.  On Thursday, the scouts are planning to display their various fine arts interests, showcasing their talents in choir and dance, theater, and improv.  It is sure to be an entertaining night.  Scouts need to turn in all rank advancement and completed merit badge blue cards to Dr. Mavalli by February 12th in order to be included in the Court of Honor scheduled for February 26th.  Please also sign up and pay by February 13 if your scout plans to attend this month's campout at Mineral Wells State Park.  There is still room for scouts who would like to participate in our Day of Service opportunity at LISDOLA on Saturday.  Please sign up on our Troop calendar!

This week, Troop Guide Lilly will be available at 6:20 before the Troop meeting to do the Tenderfoot fitness requirement 6a or 6c.  Scouts who are participating should meet her in the parking lot across the street (parking lot by the Stringfellow School entrance), bring water and wear athletic clothing (class b is preferred if available) with running shoes.  They may also want to bring a towel or yoga mat for situps and pushups.  We'll have our PLC meeting at 6:45.  During the meeting, scouts will continue this month's focus on national symbols with a presentation about the national anthem and pledge, and play a game.  Please note, the Aviation merit badge session for Sunday has been cancelled and will be rescheduled due to weather.  Wait list opportunities for high adventure are available for 2027, as are slots for our 2026 Philmont trek.  Please reach out and let us know if you're interested!  See you Thursday!
